Last week a new establishment planted itself here. There’s a food cart parked outside the hotel and it’s a welcome addition to our town.
The proprietor is Mark Mudahy who came by the Coalmont a week ago and saw that there is beer – but no food. This prompted him to come back with his food cart and try his luck here. To him this is really a working holiday, but who knows, he might stick around. So far, it’s been going well. People like his food.
Mark is a likable fellow with a broad smile. Originally from Jamaica, he has established a business on the main drag in Keremos which many here might know already. It’s called MJ’s Pizza and Caribbean Foods.
It’s been awhile since a passerby could buy food in Coalmont. Now the menu consists of Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Smokies, BBQ Pulled Pork, and Meat Pies. If you’re familiar with Jamaican food, you’ll recognize the pies as Jamaican patties. They’re hot, so you might want to saunter into the saloon for a beer afterwards.
Operating a mobile food cart and a shop in Keremeos is not the only thing that Mark does. He is also the purveyor of a fine hot sauce of his own making. It’s called Jamaica 911. Take a bottle home with you.
If you are interested in buying local Jamician food, or even the whole Food Cart, you can contact Mark at 250-295-4433. §
